Bountiful Berries

Presented by Larry Davis and Christina Cyr

The Northwest is the perfect place to grow berries.  Strawberries, blueberries and raspberries all thrive here.  If you’ve ever tried to clear a wild lot you know blackberries are right at home here also.  There are many cultivars of this fruit we love and hate, some even grow large fruit without thorns.  All of these berries with the exception of raspberries are very easy to grow.  Raspberries take more care especially in selecting a planting site.  This workshop will give you all the information you need to grow great berries.

Most people want to use fewer pesticides in their yard or better still never touch them.  Pat will discuss methods you can use to keep the critters in check and have a bountiful garden.

Making Friends With Worms/ Vermicomposting

Worms are the gardener’s best friend.  You can put them to work by making a compost bin.  All you have to do is give them organic material and they will get busy breaking it down and turning it into beautiful rich soil, black gold.

Ferns Unfurling

Ferns can play an important role in your garden.  If you have shade, you have a perfect setting for ferns, although you may have to bring in some soil to cover tree roots.  Our native sword fern can be a workhorse in the garden.  It will do well in sun or shade.  Beyond the sword fern there are many other ferns to choose from.  Judith Jones from Fancy Fronds will share her vast knowledge on the topic.  Learn all about ferns  in this interesting talk and stop by to see the fern garden in the demonstration garden.
